Time to get some sand on those bases! |
I prepare my bases this way:
- Smooth up the edges of the bases with a utility cutter and/or needle files.
- Cover up the slot with masking tape.
- Slice a slit on the masking tape with an X-Acto knife, depending on the metal slot of the miniature that goes on the base.
- With a pair of industrial side cutters, form the miniature's metal slot into an S-shaped bend. This S-shape should form a tight enough fit on the base's slot.
- Dry fit the miniature on the base and see if the miniature's metal slot needs grinding. Sometimes the metal slot is too big that if you for the miniature's feet to level with the base, it will end up wobbly. Conversely, if the metal slot is left too big, the miniature might come out as "floating" above the base/sand.
- Using cyanoacrylate, affix the miniature onto the base. The masking tape should provide enough cover to prevent sand sinks and holes. My cyanoactylate of choice is Loctite Super Glue-3.
- With PVA glue, use an applicator of your choice - be it a toothpick, an old brush, sculpting tool, etc. - and spread the PVA glue around the base surface. Make sure that the glue covers up the masking tape. My PVA glue of choice is Elmer's Glue All.
- Dip your prepped model in a tub of your sand/flock. I use sanitized river sand (keeping the odd pebbles here and there) mixed with some cracked (not powdered) egg shell.
After a few hours, these guys will get blasted with Bosny Flat Black or Bosny Primer Grey, depending on the scheme I'll use for the miniatures.
In addition to a minimum unit of Cygnar Storm Blades with their Unit Attachment, everything else is for the Motherland. In that lot, there's a War Dog, Angel of Retribution Eiryss, Battle Mechaniks, minimum unit of Kossite Woodsmen and a minimum unit of Cyllena Raefyll and her Nyss Hunters.
Thanks for reading. Questions, comments and criticisms welcome.
I see my gift is about to be painted... Just reminding you about the gap in her crotch (lol)
ReplyDeleteThat gap can be remedied by a layered application of super glue I believe ^_^
