Kommander Sorscha vs Commander Stryker
One of the more popular choices for force composition here in the Philippines among Cygnar players is the inclusion of Arcane Tempest Gun Mages, the ATGM Captain, and marshalling a long-ranged warjack (usually a Hunter or Defender). I've compared the usage of Jack Marshals with Khador but found that the Man-O-War Kovnik's Drive needs a successful CMD check or the `jacks under his control won't benefit from JM for that turn; whereas with the Cygnaran counterpart, the benefits for the marshaled warjacks are automatic, no check needed whatsoever. So in my deluded attempt to use Khadoran Jack Marshals, I came up with this force.
Khador has two in-house choices for Jack Marshal - The Man-O-War Kovnik and the Koldun Lord. I've been playing around with the idea of a pair of Destroyers just mounting up a solid lane and blasting away with boosted attack and damage rolls from their Bombards. The drawback with that is it relies heavily on the successful CMD check on the MOW Kovnik's activation.
With that, it's shaping up to be a shooty list. Two warcasters immediately came to mind - Sorscha1 and Vlad1. But since I'm saving up playing with Vlad1 when I finish painting the Gun Carriage, Sorscha1 it is! Being a mobile gunboat of sorts, I'll be lacking in punch, so it's back to the Behemoth for me. I also looked forward to casting and upkeeping Fog of War, so Widowmakers and the Marksman would finish it off nicely.
My first opponent that evening was Louie de Guzman, who was very much excited to try out his newly-purchased Storm Lances. He used Stryker1 and a 20" threat range Defender. Being outnumbered was my biggest problem. Another sore thing barreling down my right flank was a unit of Storm Lances with Arcane Shield. My Bombard shots will just bounce off that ridiculously high ARM.
I dealt with that by getting a nice lane to his Journeyman Warcaster and dropping it with some serious POW 14 artillery. When he used Invincibility, I had to dig my heels and ready for the incoming cavalry charge. Surprisingly, the Destroyers received only some damage but not enough to actually break anything that I needed.
Once Invincibility evaporated, Sorscha1 whooshed up with Wind Rush, used Icy Gaze and tagging the enemy models engaging my ranged warjacks (and Stryker1 as well). Before she ended her activation, some well-placed shots with her Hand Cannon signaled the inevitable POW14 barrage from a JM'ed Destroyer and the Behemoth as backup Bombard.
